Whether you are considering trying the sport of competitive rowing or are a recent beginner or are the parent of a junior member there are things you might like to know about the sport and what it involves.

If you would like to try out the sport there is no better place to start than in Shandon Boat Club.     We are always happy to welcome beginners and we run on-going beginners programmes to accommodate all ages.   You will find here some notes on how to “get going, get rowing” with Shandon.

For those who would like to learn a little about rowing you will find here a summary of the organisation and structure of the sport in Ireland and an explanation of the more commonly used phrases and terminology.

If you are a parent of a junior member we would very much welcome your involvement.     There are many ways in which you can contribute to the successful development and running of the club.   We would welcome involvement from parents who can help with generla committee work, fund raising, basic club maintenance,  transport to regattas and events and with other support activities.

It is also very important to the club that parents support club fund raising activities and attend club social evenings and events.

If you wish to actively contribute in some way to the development of the club, or just have some good suggestions to make, please contact any member of the committee - see Contact Us.

For parents interested in gaining a deeper insight into the sport and perhaps helping out with some basic coaching we can arrange for attendance on Rowing Ireland Introductory Coaching Courses which are specially designed for parents and other adults new to the sport.
