Cork Copenhagen Regatta

The "inaurgural" Cork Copenhagen Junior 16 Regatta was held at Shandon Boat Club on Saturday 5th July and proved to be a great success.

Eighteen young Danish rowers with their coaches and some parents arrived in Cork on Friday and were welcomed at a reception in the Cork Port Authority Chambers on Friday evening.    The young rowers were hosted by local Cork families and I would like to thank the five Shandon families who welcomed the visitors into their homes.

The regatta itself showed that the local Cork rowers were well up to the standard of our visitors - in spite of giving away inches in height.    Four of the eight races in which Copenhagen crews participated were won by Cork crews with Shandon winning two of them (the WJ16 4X+ and the MJ16 2X).

However the two feature eights races for the Port of Cork-Maersk trophies were won by Copenhagen.

We have already agreed to visit Copenhagen on May bank holiday weekend in 2015 when we are confident that we can bring the trophies home.

Also thanks to Paula Harrington and her lady volunteers ran an excellent "tuck shop" which raised €344 for club funds.   Well done ladies.
